Iowa author Kathleen Ernst will give an author presentation and Q&A session followed by a book signing on Friday, July 25th at 1:00pm at the Viking State Bank Community Room at 321 W. Water St. in Decorah, IA. Everyone is invited to this free event sponsored by the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation, with support from Viking State Bank and Dragonfly Books.

In A Most Perilous Journey, Wisconsin widow Hanneke Bauer—a German immigrant and fervent abolitionist—steps into the shadows of the Underground Railroad, risking everything to fight for freedom in a divided land. After yearning to play an active role on the Underground Railroad, she agrees to help shepherd a Negro woman on her journey from slavery to freedom. Several Railroad conductors have recently been killed in southern Wisconsin, so she is acutely aware of the dangers she faces. Finding the latest victim's body is frightening, but does not deter her. She soon learns, however, that nothing could have prepared her for the perils waiting along the journey. Hanneke believes that future Underground Railroad trips are essential...but can she live long enough to make them?
Kathleen Ernst is a social historian, educator, and bestselling author of over forty books, including mysteries, historical fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Her latest work, A Most Perilous Journey, is part of the Hanneke Bauer historical mystery series about a newly arrived German immigrant, while her popular Chloe Ellefson Mysteries feature a museum curator who uses her historical knowledge to solve present-day crimes. Kathleen has also written twenty children's books for American Girl. Her work has earned numerous honors, including an Emmy Award, multiple Agatha and Edgar nominations, a Lovey Award, and recognition from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Council for Wisconsin Writers. She lives in Stoughton, Wisconsin, with her husband Scott and feline muse Eliza.
